Summer is the Season of Childhood Hunger

Summer is a time of crucial need for the Food Bank. During the school year, children from low-income families receive food through their schools' nutrition programs. Now that it's summer, these programs are unavailable. As a result, children often go without having three nutritious meals a day, and struggling parents turn to the Food Bank for solutions.

To help alleviate this stress and feed children this Summer, Second Harvest is conducting a three month campaign called Share Your Lunch. The goal for this campaign is to raise the resources to feed 66,000 children each month this summer.

For less than the price of a lunch out, you can feed 20 children. Find out more at ShareYourLunch.net.

Backyard Produce Donations

In years past, Second Harvest Food Bank has been the lucky recipient of an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables lovingly grown by hobbyists in their backyards and community gardens. Unfortunately, the light brown apple moth has taken a foothold in our region, and because of a state-mandated quarantine in areas of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, the Food Bank is unable to accept these generous donations directly from caring citizens.
